Trump fires Comey

UPDATE on 5/11: When Trump was caught in the lie that he fired Comey based on the recommendations of Sessions and Rosentstein, he created a new story. The latest? He says he fired Comey because he was a "showboat", but I doubt anyone believes anything other than that he fired Comey to thwart the investigation into his collusion with Russia.

UPDATE on 5/11: Latest Developments on Comey: Acting F.B.I. Chief Contradicts White House ... Andrew G. McCabe, the acting director of the F.B.I., is testifying before the Senate Intelligence Committee.

The Nightmare Scenario: Trump Fires Comey, the One Man Who Would Stand Up to Him

Yep, Trump decides to fire Comey ... Inside Trump’s anger and impatience — and his sudden decision to fire Comey

He wants to fire him because Comey told the House subcommitte he's investigating collusion between Trump and the Russians ... Trump-Russia collusion is being investigated by FBI, Comey confirms

And it's obvious that Comey takes that investigation very seriously and isn't going to let it go ... Days Before Firing, Comey Asked for More Resources for Russia Inquiry

But Trump doesn't want to be open about his reasons for firing Comey, so he tells Sessions and Rosenstein to cook up some other justifications for why Comey should be fired ... Sessions was told to find reasons to fire Comey: reports.

Then Trump disingenuously blames Sessions and Rosenstein for the necessity of the firing, at the same time inserting into his pink-slip letter to Comey a weird sentence - "I greatly appreciate you informing me, on three separate occasions, that I am not under investigation" ... Trump's shifting stances on FBI Director James Comey

Republicans have tried to shift the issue from Trump's involvement with the Russia investigation by accusing Democrats of hypocrisy on Comey's firing ... McConnell Reminds Schumer How Democrats Felt About Comey

But Democratic outrage has nothing to do with Comey's competence and everything to do with Trump trying to kill the investigation against himself. Trump is going full Nixon, emulating that president who fired the man running the Watergate investigation.

And not all Republicans are in Trump's pocket: Richard Burr, for instance ... GOP chairman of Senate Intelligence Committee 'troubled by the timing' of Comey's firing .... and Comey has been invited by the Senate Intelligence Committee to appear next Tuesday as a private citizen.
